This is my book -- I wrote it
Flash Harry's Confession and Other Stories, is my, Brok3n Engines', first published book of fiction. I have read numerous Goodreads reviews written by their own authors. Thus I assume that it is acceptable to review my own book. Also, I've been kinda bummed by having zero reviews, so I'm gonna fix that. And yes, of course I give my own book five stars! Why would I have published it if I didn't think it was great!
I began publishing fiction on substack in April, 2025 -- find me at brok3nengines.com. (All my stories can be read for free there. Click on "Brok3n Engines Creations" in the link bar at the top of the page, then "See All >" near the bottom of that page.) I usually publish two stories each month, on the first and sixteenth of the month. Very occasionally I publish a poem instead of a story, but I am a lousy poet, so I don't do that often.
This volume contains 22 stories and 2 poems. The first twelve chapters are the two poems and ten standalone stories, beginning with "Flash Harry's Confession," which is still my favorite of the stories I have written. These first 12 chapters are followed by a nine-chapter serialized time-travel novella, Futures. Futures is succeeded by the first three chapters of what will be be a 12-13 chapter serialized novella, Up There to be published in full in my next book. (That one is still in progress. I have written nine chapters and planned the next three.)
What are the stories like? Well, if they remind you of Roger Zelazny, then I will have accomplished my aim. Most of the stories are Fantasy or Science Fiction.
I think I am pretty good at characters. To me, mine seem vivid, and interesting (not always likeable) and have interiority. I am not always great at plot. I sometimes have a hard time producing anything like a compelling conflict.
