Married in Gray
Seanan McGuire
A Long-expected Party
“Married in Gray” is Seanan McGuire’s September 2025 Patreon reward. She introduces it as follows:

With Velveteen finally concluded, it's time to return to our more regularly scheduled programming, and what better place to begin than with an event we've been waiting on for quite some time: the marriage of Alice Healy and Thomas Price. We always knew their wedding had been an odd one, but now we can follow them through that blessed, bizarre day, and into the following future.
InCryptid, Alice/Thomas early stories timeline, no specific books required to make sense, although it's probably best read after "Sweep Up the Wood." TW: Heterosexual marriage, ghosts, mentions of Alice's weird relationship with the Galway Wood, mice.
Enjoy!
We have known this was coming for well over a decade. Discount Armageddon, the first novel in the Incryptid series, was published in 2012, and begins with a “Price Family Tree.” At the top of this tree is a line joining Thomas Price to Alice Enid Healy, with the notation “m. 1960.” Since then McGuire has served up a steady stream of short stories and novellas describing the origins of the Price family. Many of these are available free from her web site, some have been published as the bonus novellas with which each Incryptid novel closes. In recent years they have appeared mostly on Patreon.
At this point almost the entire story of Alice and Thomas’s origins has been told, but we hadn’t quite gotten to the wedding yet. If you read the previous stories you knew almost everything about the wedding—when and where it would take place and for the most part, who would be present. You didn’t know what color Alice’s wedding dress would be, so the title tells you that. It’s a charming and quiet little story, which is a bit unusual, considering that one of the participants regularly carries assorted knives, guns, and hand-grenades on her person. Long-time fans will be glad to hear that the Aeslin mice take part.
There is very little left to tell. We haven’t quite seen the story of Kevin’s birth yet, but that’s the only major event left unrecounted. Of course, McGuire can undoubtedly serve up a stream of side-stories, and I hope she does.
