Christmas charity
Our friend Ben Aaronovitch has graced us with a small bit of Christmas charity in the form of a Moment. Aaronovitch’s moments are tiny, not-quite stories that he puts out irregularly. They are usually not Aristotelian beginning-middle-end stories, but rather vignettes that offer more insight into the history and characters of the Rivers of London novels. I am quite fond of Ben’s Moments.
We often get one when a new book is released, and fairly often we get one for Christmas or Valentine’s Day. This one appeared in my Inbox yesterday, Christmas 2025. The last previous Moment I have a record of was “Moment 15, The Body In The River. Pitlochry, January 1978” in Feb-2025. Ben himself assigned that one the number 15. Thus, assuming I haven’t missed any (not a safe assumption by any means), this would be Moment 16. (One of these days I should put together as complete a list as I can. Today will not be that day.)
In this one Peter investigates the overnight spontaneous appearance of a house where there was none before. If you’re familiar with the Rivers of London novels, you’ll be able to guess who’s responsible1.
