Release tempo
When I started this substack in May 2025 I had a few goals in mind along with some milestones. My main goals were
Release a story every month on the first of the month.
After a year, combine the first 12 stories into a book.
I thought at the time, that I could probably write more than one story a month. I didn’t want to promise more than I could deliver, though. So I set myself this milestone: if you get as far as being six months ahead of schedule, you may start to release more frequently. I’m now there. I have the following stories scheduled:
Futures 3: Alberto
The story of Elle, Molly, and Alberto continues.
1882 words. 1-Oct-2025.
Way Down Below
A retelling of the story of Arachne, from Ovid's Metamorphoses.
1467 words. 1-Nov-2025.
Futures 4: Night
The Futures story continues, with the introduction of a new character.
2791 words. 1-Dec-2025.
Quite Contrary
Mary, Mary quite contrary
How'd you get your eyes so scary?
—“Quite Contrary”, Parker Milsap
4080 words.1-Jan-2026.
Futures 5: Anne
Old Alberto tells Anne, Alberto, and Night the plan.
2336 words. 1-Feb-2026
Ash and Glory
Fantasy short story about a Witch Queen, her daughter, and a phoenix.
1621 words. 1-Mar-2026
No part of this schedule should be considered firm. I may release the stories in a different order or may insert different stories. The word counts will certainly change.
The only commitment is a new story every month.
Plans
Each of these stories is already written, uploaded to substack and Patreon. They are all scheduled for release on Patreon on the dates shown. The first three are scheduled for release on substack. The last three are posted as drafts on substack and will be scheduled when they are in the allowed substack scheduling window.
When I started this substack in May, I had two stories already written,
Since then I have written and released three more:
And, as already described, I have written but not yet released another six. Thus, in four months I have written nine stories.
It seems, therefore, that I can probably sustain a rate of two stories a month. I may therefore, begin releasing stories more frequently.
