This month, Seanan McGuire released two Patreon rewards. The first is a brand-new story "Hot New Toy", which I will review presently, after I read it. Second, she gave us an update of a past Patreon reward, "Shore to Shore", with this explanation,
An upcoming novella goes deeper into Helmi's life with Dianda, and pointed out some continuity drift since their first appearances. So this updated version of "Shore to Shore" pulls things back into true with where they need to be.
This is presumably a reference to Doubtless and Secure, the bonus novella included with The Innocent Sleep, a new October Daye novel set for release 24-Oct-2023. I previously reviewed "Shore to Shore" as part of an omnibus review of a year's worth of Petron rewards. You can find that here, but here is what I had to say about it.
The best in this group was Shore to Shore (Patrick #2). Patrick is a minor Sidhe noble who has made a happy life as an artificer. Apparently Patrick #1 is the free story Heaps of Pearl, which I declined to read because McGuire warns that it contains spoilers for the October Daye series, which I intend someday to read. All one really gleans from Shore to Shore is that Patrick previously met a mermaid called Dianda and promised her ice-cream. She shows up on his doorstep asking for it.
I have not compared this updated version to the original to see what changed.
